India has played all their group matches. Overall you can say it was a decent performance. India won 4 matches, drew 1, and lost 1, for which Dhoni received more than his fair share of criticism. India willl now play Australia in the quaterfinal, a tough opposition considering it is the number 1 ODI team.
I would say ‘clash of the titans’ since both teams are number one sides in different forms of the game. India is number one in tests. Australia has been an excellent team for more than a decade, the only team winning three world cup in a row and overall four worldcups. An achievement few can dare to emulate leave alone achieving it.
Ricky Ponting has been the one who lifted the cup twice and he is a serious contender this year as well. Though his team is doing good, I feel the man is tired or rather exhausted. I wish I could say that it is mostly because of his body language and expressions. But the fact is that Australia lost to Pakistan, the only team that provided any...

England won its Group b match against the West Indies in an excellent contest fought hard by both the teams.
When the English were batting the openers gave them a good start and it seemed they had done their job in providing England a strong foundation. But it was not to be. Number three and four managed to get agood start but failed to convert it to big scores. After their top four back in the pavilion it was an uphill task for England to post a huge target for the West Indies. Except Luke Wright no one really scored anything substantial and they managed only a 243 which, according to the commentators, looked like a competitive score
The West Indian batsmen, silent and determined, made their way to the field. Chris Gayle was at his explosive best scoring 43 runs off just 21 balls with eight boundaries and a six, then came the captain Darren Sammy who carried on the assault scoring 41 off just 29 deliveries. Their explosion at the top of the order made sure that the run rate equation...

Somdev Devvarman known for his fighting spirit and appetite for long-drawn matches lived upto to his reputation, he put up a spirited fight against Rafael Nadal but the world number one eventually managed to tame the lion-hearted Indian in straight sets in the pre-quarterfinals of the ATP BNP Paribas Open here.
Somdev went down 5-7 4-6 but not before making the Spaniard work hard for every point in a contest that lasted close to two hours – the first set alone accounting for more than an hour. Somdev kept coming back and gave the number 1 seed a lot of trouble. First set gave quite a fright to Nadal fans when Somdev just didnt seem to go down after 5-5 but the world no 1 prevailed and eventually wrapped up the match.
The Indian sure has a lot of fight left in him for the future matches only some improvements in his skills are required to crack the top 50...

Pakistan ace pacer Shoaib Akhtar will retire after the world cup. He declared the news to his team mates and team manager.
Akhtar made his debut in 1997 against West Indies. He has been in the limelight for most of his career and not always for the right reasons. Shoaib Akhtar and controversies are somewhat synonyms for cricket lovers. He was accused of having a wrong action during the beginning of his career. He was fined and suspended for having behavioral issues with his team mates. He was also in forefront when he was tested positive for consumption of a banned drug.
If you ignore all these controversies for a moment he was one of the most feared bowlers when in good rhythm. He was one of the faster bowlers and best batsmen were apprehensive of facing him. If only this bowler respected and loved the sport more, he could have been one of the legends after his retirement. But then again not all are meant to be legends. One thing is for sure we will all miss him if not for his...

Spanish football Franchise Barcelona beat Premier League club Arsenal 3-1 to advance 4-3 on aggregate, having lost the first leg 2-1, while Shakhtar followed up their 3-2 victory against AS Roma from the first leg with a 3-0 win at home for an easy 6-2 aggregate score.
One thing you can associate with England is discovering sport and then doing pretty bad with it. This has been true for cricket and football. Football is such a huge sport in England but that does not bother the English players who time and again do not get tired of disappointing their loyal supporters. You can expect better from these English teams who are reckless and not responsible to rise to the occasion and win a game for their fans. I am truly disappointed being a loyal supporter myself. I hope they get bad at disappointing their fans and better at playing sports the...
