In the US banks use the ChexSystem to determine if you’re worthy of opening a checking account with them. If you have a checking account that is closed due to bounced checks or negative balance, you’re placed on the ChexSystem list and blacklisted with every bank that uses ChexSystem. In the US, thats just about every bank. Even if your delinquent account is cleared and all payed up, the banks usually don’t bother to alert ChexSystem.
