The move to increase the number of members in the JPC from earlier 21 to current 30 is taken to accommodate representation of smaller parties. AIADMK had earlier requested Sushma Swaraj, Leader of the Opposition, and L.K Advani, chaiperson NDA, to increase the numbers to adjust AIADMK and hence the move was taken.

The compilations of the JPC is 20 members will be from Lok Sabha and 10 members will be from Rajya Sabha.

It is estimated that Congress will have 11 members 8 from Lok Sabha and 3 from Rajya Sabha, BJP to have 6 members 4 and 2. BJP has agreed to adjust Shiv Sena in its quota and there is speculation that Akali Dal might get a seat as well.

Chairperson of the JPC will be from Congress and P.C Chacko seems like a prospective candidate but a shortlisted list for the chairperson have been sent to the Congress High Command.
